What is TAB ?
A perforated label next to the stamp, blank or illustrated, usually found between the stamp and the sheet margin (selvedge). A label is usually attached to every stamp in a sheet and is considered to be an integral part of the stamp but a tab is considered outside the norm and IS NOT attached to every stamp in the sheet. Recent tabs are mostly illustrated and are common as they can be found in a ratio of as many as 1 tab per 3 stamps or 1 tab per 5 stamps, older tabs are blank and are scarce; they were apparently made to facilitate accounting when sheets were printed containing an unusual quantity of stamps, for example 32 or 152.
