What is JOINT ISSUE ?Some countries have issued at the same time, usually on the same day, stamps or sets of stamps on a common theme and usually identical in design. There are also OMNIBUS issues, which are stamps of a common design issued by several countries together (usually a Colonial power and its colonies) on a common theme. The earliest was the Vasco da Gama issue by Portugal´s Colonies in 1898 to commemorate the fourth centenary of this EXPLORER´s discovery of the route to India, the most well-known is the Silver Jubilee issue by the British Commonwealth of Nations in 1935 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the reign of King George V. We list as a separate topic the available common design issues of EUROPA, which was first issued in 1956 and have been issued yearly since 1958 but not always with the same design. Some other countries have also issued stamps to honor the Europa theme and we include these in our list.
